Deacon and Rosie are just great. Had a nice nose rub and tickle with them both this morning. Rosie is becoming more adventurous and when Deacon came into the kitchen for his weekly walk around she popped her head out as well.
Little does she know that around the corner is one of her kittens - kitten is probably not the correct word as he is a handsome young adult now.
Smudge still very unpredictable, I have a feeling there maybe a female in season in the area so I am definitely not in his good books.

Stress relievers
When they say cats are good stress relievers how right they are.
Had really bad day, so busy, came home, rushed around, sat down with Deacon trying to drink a cup of tea. When he looked at me, went to him laser light and started to tap it, as if to say. Play with me!
What fun we had with him rushing around the room like a mad man showing me how to have fun.

Little Tinker
Well what a little tinker.
After worrying about Deacon for the last few days as he seemed to have gone off his food. I discovered that he had been eating Rosie's - I feed them in different places to allow them solo time, but oh no I turned my back and I found him pushing her out the way and her letting him!
I shall have to keep an eye on him as he does not take to kindly to rich food but boys will be boys.

Poorly Boy
Established what the problem was with Smudge. Came home from work and he had a large swelling on his head (abscess on his ear). He must have got this from the fight he had before he came into care. Got him to the vets after a bit of a struggle, he did not feel well and did not want to go into the basket but who could blame him.
This little guy really does not like the basket (we will have to work on this) and re-opened the scratch on his nose by trying to dig his way out!
Anyway the vets were pleased with the abscess as it had burst and looked nice and clean so a course of antibiotics would sort everything out. And as usual after I had warned them that he was not a happy boy, had had to fling myself between him and a dog in the waiting room which had decided to see what was under the blanket, he was the perfect gentleman.
He is feeling a lot better and pills are going in his food although we are going to have to work on the trust issues as at the moment I am the mean person who keeps putting him in the basket.
I cannot wait for when he has to go and be castrated!!!!

Smudge - a little sad
Smudge seems to have withdrawn and hissed at me last night - his way of saying please leave me alone.
I will obviously watch him carefully but it could be that he just needs space to come to terms with the massive change in his life. One minute you have the free run of the world and the next you are in a pen. One thing is you must not take it personally as I could have just made him jump and I am the one that is keeping him in the pen, so if he wants to take out his frustrations out on me then that it is O.K.
He is still loving his food and I gave him a little cat milk which he lapped up.

After vets
After a stressful morning at the vets as he did not like the car journey and then had to be shaved and undergo a blood test I was amazed how calm he was when he got back.
A bit of a comb in an attempt to clean him up and get his coat nice and shiny again.
He is also eating for England which is a good sign.

Smudge

Meet Smudge - he is a young male who came into care as a stray.
He is not neutered and doesn't my nose know it!
He is very nervous and he has been fighting as he has bites and scratches on his head.

He is black and white but most of his white is very grey - I suppose his main focus has been surviving and he has not had the luxury of spending time cleaning.
He also bought along some uninvited guests but they were removed at the vets.
Deacon and Rosie are fantastic - although I am having to multi task in the cuddles department as Rosie will not wait now so it is tickling Deacon with one hand and stroking Rosie with the other. It is a bit like rubbing your tummy and patting your head!

New man in town
We have a new man arriving this morning. Do not know much about him as he is a stray. Will let you know more.
Deacon a little quiet today although Rosie did not mind as she was able to have a cuddle. She actually laid down beside me last night - the next thing I know she will be letting me tickle her tummy.

Mad Monday
What a day - traffic was hell and by the time I got home and cleaned/fed the guys I had to have something to eat. So there was no time for a cuddle and didn't we know it as Deacon behaved like a spoilt child and would not stop hitting the kitchen door.
This so emphasises the need for a routine and with the slightest change the whole house is in BIG trouble. Anyway after I had eaten I went in and what a welcome. The next 40 minutes consisted of his wet nose up mine and licking of my chin (which I will admit hurts - a cats tongue is so rough) and lots and lots of padding. Poor Rosie so wanted a cuddle but she waits so patient and we did get a quick one in whilst he went and had a nibble of his dinner. That little lady has become addicted to cuddles - what a difference 6 months makes.

Pickle and Mollie

Great news - The girls have a new home!
A lady came and saw them and fell in love there and then.
Let hope things go well and an adoption follows.
I shall miss the little ladies but I am so happy that they are in a proper home after their sad loss.
So it looks like the bad start in 2010 was just a blip and they can look forward to a great year.
