I love these guys

Every day I am thankful for the time I get to spend with these little guys.

They both have their own personalitys, quirkes, and needs but what they both give is unconditional love and the daily face wash - I am sure that Deacon thinks that I am a cat.

Note to one's self

I must remember to put deoderant on, as Rosie has taken to snuggling into my arm pit during cuddle time - each to their own!

I cannot turn my back for one moment!

I thought Deacan was being a little fussy with his food until I caught him - he has been having little trips to the kitchen most mornings and I turned my back for one moment and I found him with his head in the dog's food bowl!

After that I found him growling at the dog through the pet gate - talk about having a bad dog day.

A nose too far

Poor Deacon - he was only trying to be friends but our old lady did not think so.

He was sticking his nose out of the child gate (it should really be named pet gate in our household)being nosey as usual and our older female walked passed.

I think she is so used to putting the others in their place (she is the boss and that includes the dog)she automatically swiped.

Luckily he was not hurt, well maybe his ego as he thinks everyone should love him!

Spring Madness

Spring must definantly be in the air as Deacon is behaving like a mad cat.

He has decided to run around the room and climb up the indoor cat pen and sit on top - he must have been a tree climber in his day.

Spring Clean

Well we had a bit of a spring clean in the foster room which involved the dreaded hoover. At first they both hid behind the sofa but then Deacon realised he was missing out and decided to move to the kitchen to watch the family.

I thought Rosie would ignore me for a few days but she still wanted her cuddle that night so another step has been made.

What a few weeks

Well to say things have been crazy is an understatement however Deacon and Rosie are both fine.

Due to various reasons the routine has gone out the window however they both have coped well. Although I do not think they liked the hour change especially on the Monday morning when I went in at 6.00 (would have been 5.00) Deacon's look was a picture and said it all!

Let's hope we can get back to a more suitable routine now.

What a weekend!

Well master Deacon had to go to the vets over the weekend. He had started to scratch his face and I was concerned that he would get an infection.

He sang to me all the way there (he does not like to be restricted) and I must admit I was a little concerned when the vet called me in as he looked very sombre when he asked me why he had come in.

Although he certainly changed when he saw Deacon, he could not believe it was the cat that he had read the notes on. He said that technically he should not be still with us, but although he could feel the lump he had not lost any weight and apart from his acne was looking well!

We discussed whether it would be beneficial to him to spend more time in the main house however his opinion was not to rock the boat - things were working at the moment so not to change anything.

Obviously we accept that he is on borrowed time but both Rosie and I cherish every day that we have with him. Well I do - Rosie might think a little differently when he steals her food or sleeps in her bed but then again maybe the daily cleaning sessions make up for it!

Kitchen Time

Deacon comes out into the kitchen most morning for a few minutes. Because we have a long kitchen it is much better to play laser lights so he runs around like a mad thing - I must remember to record it!

Rosie has also started to venture out - although when she sees the large dog with his paws and nose through the child gate she looks a little concerned. To be honest she should be more worried about our cats not the big softy woof woof.

Multi-Tasking!

This is what you call multi-tasking - I need another pair of hands

What a run around

Well it was that time again for Deacon, when he needed to have his flea treatment and what a fiasco it was.

He can smell it before it comes out of the packet, so armed with some nice warm chicken I settled him down and went for the plunge, missed completely and it spun around and hit me in the face.

Maybe I should write a “what not to do when giving flea treatment”, anyway next attempt managed to get some on his neck although talk about sulking – I am going to have to think of a much better plan for next time.

Cat nip heavon

Well Smudge loves the stuff.

I am always concerned about letting dominate males have access as they can become more assertive than normal but not this little chap.

Talking about loving his blanket, rolling around, and dribbling, it was so nice to see him calm and relaxed – definitely something to use as a treat when he is good.

Heron

Well they are good guard cats I must say.

We had a Heron on our pond this morning which is close to Smudge's pen.

Poor cat did not know what to do when it came up to the pen - talk about revenge of the birds. Anyway Smudge was safe but I think he had his feathers ruffled although the foster room residence were very interested in all the commotion – Deacon was up on the window sill seeing what it was all about. I think he may have had said a few things if he had been out there!

Update

I cannot believe how time flies.

All the guys are good. Smudge is slowly getting to grips with being confined - although he likes to be heard especially at 5.00 am!

Deacon is not in Rosie's good books at the moment. He was having his rare "I want to be alone" moments so she took the opportunity to jump up on my lap for a quick pad and cuddle. But of course when he saw this, he promptly walked over and sat directly on top of her and started to pad.

I think there may have been a bit of jealousy.

Update on the gang

Deacon and Rosie are just great. Had a nice nose rub and tickle with them both this morning. Rosie is becoming more adventurous and when Deacon came into the kitchen for his weekly walk around she popped her head out as well.

Little does she know that around the corner is one of her kittens - kitten is probably not the correct word as he is a handsome young adult now.

Smudge still very unpredictable, I have a feeling there maybe a female in season in the area so I am definitely not in his good books.

Stress relievers

When they say cats are good stress relievers how right they are.

Had really bad day, so busy, came home, rushed around, sat down with Deacon trying to drink a cup of tea. When he looked at me, went to him laser light and started to tap it, as if to say. Play with me!

What fun we had with him rushing around the room like a mad man showing me how to have fun.

Little Tinker

Well what a little tinker.

After worrying about Deacon for the last few days as he seemed to have gone off his food. I discovered that he had been eating Rosie's - I feed them in different places to allow them solo time, but oh no I turned my back and I found him pushing her out the way and her letting him!

I shall have to keep an eye on him as he does not take to kindly to rich food but boys will be boys.

Poorly Boy

Established what the problem was with Smudge. Came home from work and he had a large swelling on his head (abscess on his ear). He must have got this from the fight he had before he came into care. Got him to the vets after a bit of a struggle, he did not feel well and did not want to go into the basket but who could blame him.

This little guy really does not like the basket (we will have to work on this) and re-opened the scratch on his nose by trying to dig his way out!

Anyway the vets were pleased with the abscess as it had burst and looked nice and clean so a course of antibiotics would sort everything out. And as usual after I had warned them that he was not a happy boy, had had to fling myself between him and a dog in the waiting room which had decided to see what was under the blanket, he was the perfect gentleman.

He is feeling a lot better and pills are going in his food although we are going to have to work on the trust issues as at the moment I am the mean person who keeps putting him in the basket.

I cannot wait for when he has to go and be castrated!!!!

Smudge - a little sad

Smudge seems to have withdrawn and hissed at me last night - his way of saying please leave me alone.

I will obviously watch him carefully but it could be that he just needs space to come to terms with the massive change in his life. One minute you have the free run of the world and the next you are in a pen. One thing is you must not take it personally as I could have just made him jump and I am the one that is keeping him in the pen, so if he wants to take out his frustrations out on me then that it is O.K.

He is still loving his food and I gave him a little cat milk which he lapped up.

After vets

After a stressful morning at the vets as he did not like the car journey and then had to be shaved and undergo a blood test I was amazed how calm he was when he got back.

A bit of a comb in an attempt to clean him up and get his coat nice and shiny again.

He is also eating for England which is a good sign.

Who are you

Deacon was a little concerned when he saw someone new was in the pen!

Smudge

Meet Smudge - he is a young male who came into care as a stray.

He is not neutered and doesn't my nose know it!

He is very nervous and he has been fighting as he has bites and scratches on his head.

He is black and white but most of his white is very grey - I suppose his main focus has been surviving and he has not had the luxury of spending time cleaning.

He also bought along some uninvited guests but they were removed at the vets.

Deacon and Rosie are fantastic - although I am having to multi task in the cuddles department as Rosie will not wait now so it is tickling Deacon with one hand and stroking Rosie with the other. It is a bit like rubbing your tummy and patting your head!

New man in town

We have a new man arriving this morning. Do not know much about him as he is a stray. Will let you know more.

Deacon a little quiet today although Rosie did not mind as she was able to have a cuddle. She actually laid down beside me last night - the next thing I know she will be letting me tickle her tummy.

Mad Monday

What a day - traffic was hell and by the time I got home and cleaned/fed the guys I had to have something to eat. So there was no time for a cuddle and didn't we know it as Deacon behaved like a spoilt child and would not stop hitting the kitchen door.

This so emphasises the need for a routine and with the slightest change the whole house is in BIG trouble. Anyway after I had eaten I went in and what a welcome. The next 40 minutes consisted of his wet nose up mine and licking of my chin (which I will admit hurts - a cats tongue is so rough) and lots and lots of padding. Poor Rosie so wanted a cuddle but she waits so patient and we did get a quick one in whilst he went and had a nibble of his dinner. That little lady has become addicted to cuddles - what a difference 6 months makes.

Rosie

They start so young on the internet now days! I have a feeling I may have lost my laptop.

Pickle and Mollie

Great news - The girls have a new home!
A lady came and saw them and fell in love there and then.
Let hope things go well and an adoption follows.
I shall miss the little ladies but I am so happy that they are in a proper home after their sad loss.

So it looks like the bad start in 2010 was just a blip and they can look forward to a great year.

The gang

Girls are doing very well. Mollie is coming out of herself more and Pickles is just as loving.

Although they are not too amused with my big boy Bungle when he goes down to wind them up at 6.00 o'clock in the morning!

Rosie is now obsessed with cuddles - not bad for a cat that would not let anyone touch her when she first came in. And the man himself Deacon takes more of my heart everyday. It was like a tag team the other day with one on the lap for a cuddle followed by the other.

Anyway girls have a nice lady coming to see them tomorrow so fingers crossed.

Girls

Everything is going to plan - after two days they have started to eat normally. It is funny how for the first two days, most cats will just pick at their food and then all of a sudden it is like a switch is turned on and they clean their bowls.

These girls are so loving and cannot get enough attention. They are going to make lovely companions and I really hope it does not take too long. Anyone out there looking for two absolutely gorgeous cats, well you know where to call.

Routine went out the window today as I did not keep an eye on the dog when he was out for his walk tonight and he dug. Unfortunately the hose was no good so it was bath time - he was not too pleased. Anyway it took time so Deacon did not have his cuddle until later so he was most put out.

Girls

The new ladies went for health check yesterday - all O.K. although we had to get rid of a few little visitors which should make them feel more comfortable. Mollie needs to have some teeth out and a dental but nothing to worry about.

Pickles could also do with losing a few pounds as she is 2 kilos heavier than Mollie!

Pickles certainly knew how to work the vet as when she was trying to listen to her heart she flipped over onto her back to show off her belly and I must say it was a very nice belly!

They seem to have a good night although they did seem a bit shocked when I woke them up at 6.00 o'clock this morning for their breakfast. It day's like this that I really would not mind being a cat as at least they can go back to bed.

Deacon was a little quiet this morning - but then again he is very much like me and not a morning person/cat.

Pickles

Mollie

There are some new girls in town.

8 Year old Mollie (above) and Pickles who is 6 years old.

Sadly their owner died so they have come into care whilst they await a new home.

They are very sweet and these pictures are from their first night in care - not bad!

Deacon

Deacon is doing well. He certainly likes to play although he has so many toys I am now resorting to hanging them from doors.

He is so funny and he really does put the full effort into it.

Rosie loves to watch him and is learning alot.

Terrible twosome

Well what with the Christmas break and all the snow, things have been very hectic. But at least things are starting to get back to normal.

Deacon and Rosie had a good Christmas although I had to confiscate Deacon's catnip sack as it turned him into demon cat.

They are getting on so well - he has started to clean her now. I keep telling him that she is quite capable but he does insist.

Got some good pictures and film which I will put on soon.
